I think there should be a balance. do not give too much of pocket money and also teach the kid about the real value of money

Very good article. I was always thinking whether to give or not to give pocket money as many of the kids of my son's age are given pocket money by their parents.

I disagree with mantra. I think it is a good idea as it helps kids to be responsible and also make them know the actual value of money. they learn to save from a young age.

I do not think that there is a need to give pocket money to small kids. Once kids know the value of money, then only they should be given any allowance.

Do you give your kids an allowance or 'pocket money'? If not, perhaps it's time you started. Giving a child an allowance has numerous benefits, and it inculcates a sense of responsibility in your child. How much? Be logical about the amount of pocket money you are giving your kids. If it is just a token and you know your kids will come running to you the minute they need to buy something exciting, and you wont hesitate to fork over the money (if, of course, you feel their demand is reasonable), you're not doing the right thing. How much salary would you give your child?
